American Red Cross Learn-to-Swim Lesson Descriptions:

This recognized program is instructed by certified staff. A skills test on the first day of lessons will determine if your child is in the appropriate level. It is not unusual to repeat levels before mastering all the skills. Below you will find the skills taught for level 2 swim lessons.

Level 2: Fundamental Aquatic Skills

• Enter by stepping or jumping from the side 
• Swim on side
• Open eyes under water
• Exit water safely using ladder or side
• Swim on front/back using combined strokes
• Front/back glide
• Tread using arm/leg motions
• Pick up a submerged object
• Roll over from front to back, back to front
• Float on front/back 
• Move in the water while wearing a life jacket
