About Youth

Now more than ever we recognize the importance of supporting students’ social and emotional development. Community Education Youth Programs deliver a range of enrichment learning opportunities during out of school time (afterschool, non-school days, and summer) including recreation, enrichment opportunities & trips. Community Education offerings support youth to develop strong peer relationships and foster new skills. We do offer seasonal scholarships for families who qualify for Free & Reduced lunch. Summer Adventure Camp JULY 29-AUGUST 1
Summer Adventure Camp

Please register by 2023-2024 school year grade (grade completed) for these classes: BEGINNER UKULELE - Beginning ukulele and beyond - in this class, we will learn chords starting in the Key of C, how to strum and use rhythms, and apply this to a variety of songs that we can play together. Ukuleles and all materials will be provided. ADVANCED UKULELE - Build your ukulele skills in a fun group setting. In this class, we will add to the chords we have already learned and apply these to songs in other keys. We will explore strumming patterns and how they change the feel of songs. Ukuleles and all materials provided. CRAFTS - Join us for different arts and crafts projects each day. PAINTING - The class focus will be on all painting projects! PHY. ED. GAMES - This class is designed to allow children to practice playing different organized phy-ed games to be able to exercise and engage in moderate activity KICKBALL - This class is to help learn the basics of kickball. Includes skills training on kicking, running bases, catching, and learning the rules of kickball. This class also includes fun games to work on team-building skills! DOGEBALL - This class is an opportunity for kids to learn more about dodgeball and play different variations of the game! Also includes instruction on throwing, dodging, catching, agility, and teamwork-building skills. STEAM AND MOTION - In this class, we will experiment with various ways to make things move. SOCCER FUNDAMENTALS - This class is designed for beginners to introduce the basics of soccer such as dribbling, passing and shooting. Class will also work on life skills such as teamwork, sportsmanship, making new friends and improving soccer skills. DRAMA - Learn beginner theatre skills like stage presence, using expression, projection and taking stage directions. INTRO TO PICKLEBALL - This class is designed to teach the basic fundamentals/rules of pickleball/paddle sport. OUTDOOR GAMES - This class will include different outdoor games like topple ball, capture the flag, and color tag. This is a great way for kids to get outside and learn new games! VOLLEYBALL - This class is for beginner players who want to learn the specific skills of volleyball. Students will learn the rules of volleyball and get opportunities to play in a game-like situation.

Youth Wrestling Program Grades Pre K-12 ('24-'25 Grade): DC/L Wrestling Staff The DC/L Charging Wrestling program is offering multiple training sessions this summer with a goal of improving in all three wrestling positions (Feet, Top, Bottom) in technique, drilling, sparring, and live goes! Bring a friend and have fun with the wrestling team this summer. Off-season training will make in-season champions.

Cake Wars
Youth Enrichment

Get creative with your cake decorating skills as you compete against other teams for the winning cake! Each group will receive a 6” round cake. Charity will a begin class by demonstrating basic cake decorating techniques before letting each group create a unique cake of lollipops, ice cream cones, & candy decorations using provided frosting, fondant, and tools. At the end of class, a winning cake will be chosen and receive a prize! Bring an apron and turntable if you have them. Minimum age of 5 years old.

Summer Gymnastics
Youth Recreation

The July Session of Gymnastics will open at a later date as we are still working on securing instructors for that session. Unless stated otherwise, classes are based on skill level. Descriptions include skills that should be mastered before joining. Minimum age is 4 years old. Staff reserve the right to recommend or require movement from/into a level. Wear comfortable clothes and have hair pulled back. Preschool Gymnastics Ages 4-5 Introduction to gymnastics that will focus on each of the four events. Gymnastics Basics Ages 6-9 For gymnasts who have not mastered a cartwheel. Focus is on the fundamental basics needed on each of the four events. Beginner Gymnastics For those with little gymnastics experience but are able to do a cartwheel on their own. Focus is on fundamental skills on each of the four events. Intermediate Gymnastics For those who have been in gymnastics before. Focus is on learning and building skills on each of the four events. Must be able to do a backbend on their own. Advanced Gymnastics Designed for girls who are a part of or are interested in joining the middle or high school gymnastics teams. Must be able to do a back handspring by themselves.
