Mission & Vision
High Tides Swim Club (HTSC) was established in 1974 to promote water safety and competitive swimming opportunities for young people in the Hutchinson community. We are members of USA Swimming and the "Age Group" swimming program. Our club offers the single largest guided fitness activity for children in America.
High Tides athletes range from entry level age group swimmers to regional/national qualifiers. It is a great group of professionally coached athletes that learn valuable lessons in sportsmanship, teamwork, dedication, and personal achievement while having a ton of fun in the pool. If you can swim half a length of the pool (about 12 yards) unassisted in any stroke (typically the swimmer will have passed Level 4 Red Cross Lessons) then you're ready to JOIN HIGH TIDES!!!!
We are a 501(c)(3) non profit club run by a parent volunteer Board of Directors which meets monthly. All members are welcome to attend board meetings and encouraged to be involved in team activities and fundraising.
Mission Statement: High Tides Swim Club will develop and maintain a program of swimming excellence for Novice to National level athletes focusing on continuous development through goal setting, nutrition, mental training, teamwork and competition. High Tides Swim Club provides a safe and supportive environment for all level athletes.
Vision Statement: High Tides Swim Club will work with the community and school district to promote the sport of swimming and achieve mutual success. Our professional, innovative coaching staff will use technical instruction and positive reinforcement to develop high character athletes who are successful in swimming and in life. Club growth will be accelerated through parental involvement, community support and coaching excellence.
Our Beliefs:
- All HTSC swimmers should have the opportunity and be positively encouraged to reach his/her full potential.
- HTSC swimmers will learn and develop their abilities with regard to physical health as well as competition.
- Harassment, humiliation and ridiculing of HTSC swimmers by staff or peers will not be tolerated.

- Active participation by member families builds a sense of community and is critical to our long term success.
- HTSC will collaborate with community recreation and high school sports for the benefit of our mutual athletes.
- Consistent attendance at practice builds conditioning and is the foundation for competitive swimming success.
- Swimming in home meets is strongly encouraged. Swimming in away meets is encouraged, but optional.
- HTSC coaches are responsible for swimmer safety and conduct. Therefore, our coaches retain ultimate authority at all practices and meets.
- HTSC supports high school athletics and therefore will offer pro-rated swim fees and flexible season start dates to athletes joining the club at the conclusion of their high school season.
- Teamwork and good sportsmanship are highly valued and will be expected of all staff, swimmers and member families.
- Hosting swim meets provides revenue and recognition of the High Tides brand. Successful meet hosting requires active volunteering by all HTSC member families.
- Fundraising activities, while optional, are critical to the club's goal of maintaining affordable participation fees.
- The HTSC Board of Directors strives to be transparent in all club operations and welcomes questions from members.

High Tides Competitive Groups |
|||
Each swimmer is assigned to a specific practice group by the coaching staff after an initial skill evaluation when joining the team. The Coaching staff makes all decisions regarding initial group placement and all subsequent group changes for an athlete. Coaches will initiate communication with parents when a swimmer becomes ready for another group level. Although times are a partial basis for group placement, our program focuses on swimming skills and techniques as well as aerobic and strength conditioning, and works to ensure success for swimmers as they move through levels so they will be comfortable and consistent with the demands of the group they are moving into. Swimmers will be required to master certain skills, perform at specific levels in training, and exhibit certain behavioral criteria to be promoted to the next swimming level. |
