AARP Safe Driver 4 HR CoursesAARP Safe Driver CoursesSome topics include: basic rules, common effects of aging, medications, license renewal process, traffic hazards, and accident prevention. Class includes video, lectures, and discussion, no driving or written test. This host charges a host fee included in registration cost. Please bring a pen, your AARP card and driver's license to class. Registration deadlines are one week prior to the class. As of July 1, 2024, Minnesota's 8-hour class is no longer offered. Child & Babysitting Safety (CABS) ProgramYouth Enrichment ClassesAges 11+ Motivating and Inspiring Minds—Ariane Bromberg The Child and Babysitting Safety (CABS) program from the American Safety and Health Institute provides everything you need to know for safe and successful babysitting. The students will receive their certification card and instructions to access a digital copy of the CABS student book at the end of class. Topics cover everything from getting started with your business to collaborating with parents and children, safety, safe sleep practices, caregiving, emergencies, and basic first aid. CABS will help set you up for babysitting success. Students must be present for the entire class and complete the core learning objectives to receive certification, valid for two years. Students attend this class independently and should come prepared with a notebook and pen. Registration deadline is one week prior to class date. Parents need to be sure their children have the skills and maturity to handle the responsibility safely. Whether for an hour after school or several hours a day during the summer, being trusted to be home alone can be a positive experience for a mature and well-prepared child. This class for children will address several topics relating to being “Home Alone,” including age guidelines, safe habits, house rules, after-school routines, phone calls and door knocks, dog emergencies, personal safety, handling the unexpected, gun safety, severe weather, fire safety, intruders, and basic first aid tips. Students attend this class independently, and parents are encouraged to review the information and discuss it with their child/children after class. Intro to Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Ages 6-19Martial ArtsGreat Lakes Combatives Staff Intro To Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu - Youth: If you’ve ever seen kids instinctively grab, hold, and try to topple each other while playing, you’ve already seen the beginnings of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ). In this 8-session beginner course, students learn how to channel those natural instincts into the fundamentals of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in a safe, structured environment. Classes focus on balance, movement, and simple techniques that teach control, leverage, and basic self-defense skills while building confidence and coordination. No experience required. Intro to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu - Teen: Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) is often called “human chess.” Like wrestling, it’s a form of grappling—but where wrestling emphasizes speed and takedowns, BJJ focuses on control, leverage, and strategy. In this 8-session beginner course, teens learn core positions, escapes, and basic techniques while improving mobility, strength, and focus. Softball T-ball League: Girls Ages 5-8SoftballThis league is for girls that are not yet participating in the traveling fastpitch program. This In-House Softball League is dedicated to offering children ages 5-8 an enjoyable and supportive environment where they can learn and prepare for fastpitch softball. Emphasis will be on creating a positive and inclusive atmosphere that helps young players develop their skills, forge new friendships, and experience the sheer joy of the game, all within a non-competitive setting. Players will be split into teams depending on registration numbers and the league will be a mix of coach-pitch and using a tee. Several volunteer coaches are required to run this activity. Spitfire Bocce BallSpecial OlympicsPractice will be held at the West Ripley Park. This gentle, short-range yard game has been a favorite for centuries throughout Europe. Bocce Ball is open to all Special Olympic athletes as well as Unified Partners. Indicate a shirt size when registering. Registration is required. All athletes and Unified Partners are required to fill out an application/consent form through Special Olympics MN.
